Ormsgill Hub receives £10,000 from National Lottery fund

A COMMUNITY group has received £10,000 in funding that will provide their youngsters with a new outdoor space to play in. Ormsgill s Munchkin s Group has thanked members of the team at Schneider Road Community Hub and The National Lottery Community Fund for helping them receive the money. The Munchkin s group plan to use the money to create an outdoor play space for the children and put on future events when restrictions are lifted. Group leader Tracy Ann Matthews described the club as being very chuffed at news of the funding. Schneider Road Community Hub, also known as the hub with a heart, has been ran by Tracy since November 2019, and has provided a base for her Munchkins toddler group.

St Pius X Primary School to buy minibus after raising £10K

St Pius X Catholic Primary School is set to receive a second minibus which will allow whole classes of schoolchildren to attend school trips. The good news came as the school managed to raise the £10,000 needed to purchase another minibus after starting the fundraising in September. Headteacher Kevin McGoldrick is delighted that the school reached the target after just five months. He said: “It is absolutely brilliant – it just adds to the students’ enrichment and adds to the curriculum opportunities that we can offer our children. “Some of them haven’t had the chance to go on trips, so by having the minibus it will allow us to give children the best possible start to their education.

Excitement as work starts on new building at St Pius school

EXCITEMENT: Headteacher of the school Kevin McGoldrick WORK has started on a new school building that will act as space for special needs education among other uses. Construction of the new building at St Pius X Catholic Primary School in Barrow started on Saturday after plans were given the green light. The new building will act as a space for individual pupils with special educational needs and disabilities as well as groups. It will also be used to for St Pius s breakfast club and after school club so the school hall can be used for extra curricular activities including football and gymnastics.
