Bailey Savio won 10 of 17 faceoffs in Loyola s win over Richmond.
As No. 12 Loyola warmed up Sunday for its first game in 11 months, it felt the sort of anticipation anyone would entering this season.
Also notable was what it didn’t have: About half of its roster, since only one bus arrived on time to take the Greyhounds to No. 17 Richmond that morning.
“I’ve never seen anything like it,” coach Charley Toomey said of the prelude to his team’s 8-7 victory. “Even the Richmond kids were looking across like, ‘They’ve got to be kidding us. They brought 22 kids?’ It was crazy. … Welcome to 2021. After 2020, nothing will surprise me anymore.”

Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:
1. The NCAA Division I women’s lacrosse season opened this weekend, and Jacksonville rallied for a big win over High Point to open Friday’s action. On Saturday, Notre Dame showed it’s picking up right where it left off. Rounding things out on Sunday was No. 1 North Carolina living up to the hype, besting Stony Brook 14-7 in a top-five showdown. And in case you forgot, Izzy Scane is really good. She tied a Northwestern record with nine goals in a win over Ohio State.
The action perks up significantly this week with the majority of DI teams in action.
Tuesday is for the hunter with North Carolina hosting High Point on the ACC Network at 2 p.m.
Saturday s action is robust currently 19 games on the docket, but some of those are likely to be postponed. Check the www.insidelacrosse.com calendar for the complete listing and have your head on a swivel for postponements and changes, which will become standard operating procedure in 2021. The Big Ten debuts with its conference only format.

For nearly 57 minutes, the Richmond Spiders kept Kevin Lindley in check. Unfortunately, he exploded in the last three-plus, scoring two goals in regulation and the OT-winner as the Loyola Greyhounds escaped from Robins Stadium with an 8-7 victory.
