Yarmouth Police Chief Frank Frederickson views the officers under his command as family.
“These officers are my kids, and if that s my son or daughter out there, I want them to have this,” Frederickson told the Yarmouth Select Board this week.
He was talking about body-worn cameras.
Once a point of contention between law enforcement and police reform advocates, Frederickson said that departments across the country are increasingly embracing the technology as integral to police operations and his department is one of them.
“I can t stress enough, we really should do whatever we can to get this enacted,” he said. “We owe it to our officers to do this, to give them the tools that they need.”
SOUTH YARMOUTH A juvenile faces multiple charges after allegedly breaking into a convenience store Tuesday night, according to a Yarmouth Police Department official.
Police were called at 10:55 p.m. to Cape Cod Convenience on 50 Long Pond Road after the store owner was alerted by an alarm system, said Deputy Chief Kevin Lennon. When the owner checked his cameras, he saw a person in store, said Lennon.
Police set up a perimeter around the store and arrested the suspect after a brief pursuit that ended in the parking lot of the China Inn restaurant on Route 28.
The suspect had smashed a hole in the front window of Cape Cod Convenience big enough for a person to climb through, said Lennon.
