After a public meeting, the Lookout Mountain, Ga., Council passed the fiscal year 2021-2022 budget on first reading. There will be no property tax increase this year. Property reassessments are currently being done and the values are increasing, but Mayor David Bennett said the millage rate will be lowered so people will not see an increase in their taxes.
The city will be receiving around $500,000 divided between the next two years that will come from the Federal Cares Act which is providing the money to state and local governments to help them recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Our Mountain Garden At Lookout Mountain, Ga., Nearing Completion Friday, February 12, 2021 - by Gail Perry Our Mountain Garden in Lookout Mountain, Ga. just off of Witt Road is right on schedule and nearing completion, said Jimmy Campbell at the February town council meeting He is the community volunteer who has headed up the project since its inception. Most of the plantings are in and have benefited from the rainy winter. Next week, a meeting has been planned with others who have been involved in the garden’s creation to finalize plans for a stone patio. Mr. Campbell wants to make sure it is designed to accommodate groups of students to use as a classroom or for community activities such as a small live band.

As the town of Lookout Mountain, Georgia grows, it was recognized that the city manager’s role needed to be expanded. At the Lookout Mountain, Ga. council meeting Thursday night, Mayor David Bennett announced the appointment of Kenny Lee as city manager effective Jan. 1. Brad Haven who held the job for 10-15 years will assume the new position of Senior Operations Manager. The mayor said that the town is grateful for Mr. Haven’s work during that time and appreciate his new role going forward.
Lookout Mountain, Ga., Advances On 2 Major Projects Despite Pandemic Friday, December 11, 2020 - by Gail Perry
Lookout Mountain, Ga., Mayor David Bennett said Thursday that the town has made some major achievements during the year of the pandemic. He said that he is grateful to the town council, the employees, the planning commission, and support from residents which were all given credit for work that was done to move the city forward despite COVID-19. Accomplishments this year include two large projects - groundbreaking for the new city hall and fire station and the creation of Our Mountain Garden, all done during a pandemic.
