Here's a happy Maine sports memory for you. May 30, 1994. 27 years ago this week, the Portland Pirates won their one and only AHL Calder Cup Championship! It was the very first year of the franchise. A magical year to be sure with team members became household names in Maine: Killer Kevin Kaminski, Kent Hulst, Jeff Nelson, Kerry Clark, Byron Dafoe, and Olaf Kolzig. The Pirates totally owned the town in the first three years in Portland, with sell-outs at the CCCC most of the time. Portland was Hockeytown!

Active member and chapter board member Kevin Kaminski received the “Spirit of TU Award.” Trout Unlimited was founded in Michigan in 1959 and presently has 300,000 members and friends and more than 400 chapters nationwide. This year is their debut of the new Spirit of TU Award.
Greenfield resident gets national recognition for trout study
Greenfield resident Kevin Kaminski was recently named a “Spirit of TU” award winner by the national nonprofit Trout Unlimited for his work in an ongoing two-year investigation on the movement of 30 brown trout in the Deerfield River. Kaminski attached a mobile receiver system to his vehicle, driving the 8.5-mile test area and recording the positions of the fish. CONTRIBUTED PHOTO

Dalmeny, Sask. restaurant brings authentic Louisiana cooking to the table
The establishment was launched by Karl Cantrelle Jr. and Charity Cantrelle in November 2019. It features a menu inspired by Karl s roots from the deep south in particular, the swampy areas of Louisiana. I want to give people a little change of scenery, a little change of culinary experience, Karl Cantrelle said. Some people can t or (haven t) travelled, Cantrelle Jr. says. I want to send you somewhere else. You come in, you relax, you sit down, you enjoy your company, enjoy your food.
He says that approach has garnered many comments from guests who say that they don t feel like they are eating in Canada, because of the atmosphere.
