The Jefferson Police Department responded to two motor vehicle accidents yesterday (Tuesday); however, neither of them was related to slick road conditions reported throughout the region later in the day. According to law enforcement, the first accident occurred at approximately 5:08 a.m. near the intersection of U.S. Highway 30 and Oakland Avenue. Their initial investigation shows a 2017 Chevrolet Traverse, driven by Nicholas Nelson of Jefferson, collided with a deer on the roadway and sustained an estimated $4,000 in damages. No injuries were reported. The second accident was reported at approximately 12:53 p.m. in the 500 block of N. Elm Street. Authorities say a 2016 Chevrolet Malibu, owned by Kevin Kafer of Jefferson, was parked at a Casey’s gas pump and was struck by a 2006 Ford F150, driven by Joseph Turner of Jefferson. Damage was estimated at approximately $200 to each vehicle.
