Umatilla shooting suspect turns himself in

UMATILLA – The suspect in the Jan. 20 shooting of a man at his home has surrendered to authorities at the Lake County jail.
Jack L. Brown II, 34, of Eustis, has been charged with attempted first-degree murder and shooting into an occupied dwelling in the shooting of Kevin Hutcheson, 42, at 51 Highland Ave.
According to the arrest affidavit, Brown went to Kerr’s Tire Shop at 501 N. Central Avenue at 11:14 a.m. He accused Hutcheson of stealing his motorcycle and asked an employee to take him to Hutcheson’s house.
The employee told detectives that he rode with Brown in his black BMW sedan to Hutcheson’s home at 51 Highland Ave. They arrived at 11:20 a.m. He said he sat in the car while Brown went to the door.

Kevin Hutcheson, 42, of Umatilla, was shot in his home at 51 Highland Ave.
The sheriff’s office believe Brown was driving a dark-colored BMW, with a possible Florida tag number of KGMR68.
Hutcheson was rushed to a hospital in critical condition.
Investigators do not believe the shooting was random.
The Umatilla Police Department asked the sheriff’s office to take over the case.
