BUFFALO, N.Y. 2 On Your Side continues to ask questions to officials in the City of Buffalo about issues related to school zone speed cameras and whether some drivers will get refunds for tickets.
Community advocate Peter Rizzo has been a big critic of Buffalo s school zone camera program, which went dark earlier this month.
A lingering question remains on refunds for drivers who got tickets right before the end of the school year.
But, we ll have to see if the city will honor the resolutions or if any change in the law is needed.
At an event Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown attended Tuesday, we tried to talk to him on camera about the school zone speed camera refunds, but he declined to do an interview, however the mayor did touch on refunds last week and was asked if the tickets will be valid. They will be valid because as we ve been saying the intent of the council wasn t what actually was written in the ordinance, according to the law department, the law department in their legal reading of the ordinance that was passed by the council it actually shows that the cameras would be off on September 1, Brown said.

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) â Whatâs going on with the Buffalo school speed zone cameras?
According to the Buffalo Common Council, the cameras were supposed to be turned off after the council voted to stop using the cameras, and the amendment was sent to the Mayorâs office in late May.
According to Councilmember Rasheed Wyatt, as of June 15, the cameras should have been turned off.
âPeople are still getting tickets,â he said
