a growing trend among young college graduates, going from hitting the books to boot camp. and new military recruits, holding bachelor s degrees jumping 17% in 2009 and on average an officer is paid $2700 a month, and for enlisted recruits, more than $13 percent. and molly line is live with the story out of boston and you interview one young man who is doing just that. what is his story, and reasoning, molly? good morning. reporter: good morning. yeah, we had a chance to talk to kevin dourghety from mass marks 23 years old and graduated massachusetts and graduated from bentley college with a finance degree and pictured himself going to incorporate finance but with the economy and the job market being tv he leaned in another direction, towards the arm, and something he always thought about but got a little spark behind him and realized that it would hockhe would like commission job and, $120,000 in
student loans. and he felt that would secure his future. the economy, the instability of having a job, and all of the debt, you never want to be in a position where you cannot afford your buys, and, so, there is no reason, to go into the military if it is just an economic decision. reporter: kevin dourghety also believes, it gives him a chance and his generation to prove they are about service and it s not just a me, me, me type of generation and is looking forward to starting and heads to boot camp in the fall. bill: what is this military s take on the recruiting success they ve seen among enlisted people with college degrees. reporter: historically there is a boost in recruitment in bad economic times, in the midst of a veegs arecession and the heady recruitment, dez he doesn t want to give the economy too much credit, because the generation of soldiers coming in, they deserve the credit as well, the young men and women and also the army made a real push to get
