City of Sheldon Planning Clean-Up of Nuisance Property December 16, 2020 6:37 pm Saga CommunicationsPhoto Courtesy: City of Sheldon Sheldon, IA (KICD)– The City of Sheldon will be moving forward with the clean up of a nuisance property that involves a trailer home that was destroyed by fire in April. City Attorney Micah Schreurs told the City Council Wednesday evening a hearing was held earlier this week after the property owner failed to comply with previous orders to have the property cleaned up by Tuesday. The property owner, Kevin Crafton, was at the council meeting where he noted some clean up was beginning but cited personal reasons as far as why it had not already been complete.

December 16, 2020 Sheldon, Iowa A Review of Compliance hearing arising from a judge’s order in October, was held Tuesday morning in O’Brien County court at Primghar. The hearing was held in the case of the owner of a mobile home that was decimated by fire on Easter Sunday of this year. The City of Sheldon had declared the burned-out mobile home, which is owned by Kevin Crafton and located at 1320 South 3rd Avenue, a nuisance and had ordered its removal, with a deadline for completion of August 5th. Crafton was granted a hearing before the Sheldon City Council at their July 1st meeting. Following that hearing, the Council affirmed their August 5th deadline for Crafton to have the home removed and the property cleared.

The fire in April destroyed the home in the 1300 block of South 3rd Avenue and was reportedly not insured. The property owner, Kevin Crafton, was originally given one year to to replace the trailer to avoid future zoning issues, but has failed to begin the clean-up process according to documents for the City of Sheldon.
