Ryan/Globe Staff Amazon’s announcement last week that it would sign a lease on a building in the Seaport District to accommodate 3,000 new tech workers signaled an enormous vote of confidence in downtown Boston as a business hub, despite the COVID-19 pandemic. Loomis, Sayles & Co. sent a signal, too, albeit a more nuanced one. The investment firm extended its lease at One Financial Center, the tower near South Station where the company has been since the 1980s, through 2037. But at 232,000 square feet, Loomis will occupy about one-third less space than it does today, giving back three floors.

ON THE MOVE: Nasdaq Promotes Jeremy Skule; JonesTrading Adds Troy Draizen

Traders Magazine Nasdaq named Jeremy Skule Executive Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer. Skule will lead the Global Strategy Organization to drive strategic planning, mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, venture investing, and NasdaqNext innovation. He will continue to oversee Nasdaq’s Marketing and Communications division, now part of Global Strategy. Since joining Nasdaq in 2012, Skule has led the global rebranding of Nasdaq, and helped develop the company’s 2017 strategic pivot toward data, analytics and technology. Skule’s 25-year career has spanned senior communications positions and marketing leadership roles in Washington, D.C. and New York. Before Nasdaq, Skule led marketing and communications teams across the financial services industry overseeing marketing, communications, business and financial media relations, internal communications, and analyst relations. 

Loomis Sayles chooses first chief diversity officer

Loomis Sayles chooses first chief diversity officer The role is new, a spokeswoman confirmed. Mr. Benton reports to Kevin Charleston, CEO and president, and John Russell, head of human resources and senior counsel. Mr. Benton is responsible for putting the firm s diversity, equity and inclusion strategic plan into action. He ll focus on attracting, developing and retaining diverse talent and engaging with all staff to promote a firmwide culture of inclusion. He brings considerable expertise in diversity, equity and inclusion to the firm and his leadership will be critical as we strive to continually make significant improvements in these areas, Mr. Charleston said in a news release. Creating an environment where we can attract and integrate talented individuals with different lived experiences is a business imperative; we are deeply committed to build on our existing foundation and Marques will be integral to our work creating meaningful change.
