Israel repatriated on Thursday two Syrian shepherds who crossed into Israel a few weeks ago, in a sign of progress in Russian-mediated negotiations between the two neighboring countries for the release of an Israeli woman captured in Syria.
The woman was transferred to Russia over the past week, and a private Israeli plane left Tel Aviv on Thursday to retrieve her.
The Israel Defense Forces spokesman said the two Syrian nationals were handed over to the Red Cross at the Quneitra border crossing on the Golan Heights. The military added the shepherds return was at the order of Israel s political leadership.

Around 30 Hamas and Islamic Jihad prisoners in Ramon Prison have tested positive for COVID-19, apparently after catching it from wardens. One has been hospitalized.
Dozens of Palestinian prisoners who fell sick at Ketziot Prison were also transferred to Ramon, where they were put in an isolation block upon arrival. The prison has been put under lockdown following the outbreak.
Neveh Tirza, the women’s prison, was also closed for 48 hours after three prisoners tested positive. All prisoners and wardens were then tested for coronavirus, but the results haven’t come back yet.
