In late April and again in May an outburst of gunfire targeted several homes in Athens where Athens-Clarke police reported no one was injured.
So far, police detectives won’t reveal if they have linked any of those shootings or determined a motive on why those homes were selected by the shooters.
However, police are also looking at possible links between that violent spree and the slaying of an Athens man who was gunned down inside a car outside Winder.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is probing the shooting death of 20-year-old Ketravian Tyvon Cole, on May 2 along Georgia Highway 316.
The slaying of an Athens man during a shooting May 2 on Georgia Highway 316 near Winder appears to be linked to gang violence, authorities said.
“In my opinion, it’s definitely gang-related and in retaliation from other things (in Athens),” Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith said Friday.
The shooting claimed the life of 20-year-old Ketravian Tyvon Cole, a hip-hop artist in Athens who performed under the name EBE Montana. Cole, a passenger in a car, was shot about midnight and died at the scene.
Another man, Mark Anthony Thomas, 42, of Athens was wounded and transported to a nearby hospital. Two others in the Nissan Versa were unharmed, according to the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office.
