Over 100 teams from 50 countries will take part in the Intercontinental Online Chess Championship for Prisoners, a three-day event that starts on October 11. The championship is a part of the Chess for Freedom Program, launched two years ago to promote chess as a tool for education and social inclusion in prisons worldwide.
The World’s Women’s Team Championship is taking place on September 6-11 in Bydgoszcz, Poland. Twelve teams of four players are divided into two pools of approximate strength according to the teams’ average rating, with the best eight advancing to a double-round knockout stage. The first edition of the World Rapid Team Championship kicked off on Saturday in Düsseldorf. Amid a relaxed environment, a few of the strongest GMs in the field suffered upsets. After the first four rounds, WR Chess, Wadim Rosenstein’s team, is the only squad with a perfect 8/8 score. From 26th to 28th of August 2023, the German city of Düsseldorf will host a unique competition the first World Team Rapid Chess Championship, organized by FIDE in partnership with WR Logistics GmbH. 43 teams from all over the world will compete for a €250,000 prize fund, and the best team will receive the first prize of €100,000. Participants include former world champions Viswanathan Anand, Vladimir Kramnik, Hou Yifan, Alexandra Kosteniuk, Mariya Muzychuk, as well as Ian Nepomniachtchi, Fabiano Caruana, Boris Gelfand, Levon Aronian, Peter Svidler, Jan-Krzysztof Duda Nodirbek Abdusattorov and Daniil Dubov.
The Aimchess Rapid is the fourth event of the 2023 Champions Chess Tour. The tournament, taking place on July 10-14, features three divisions, each a double-elimination knockout, where if you lose one match you drop to a lower bracket and can still win the tournament.
