Lake District walker s snapped hamstring triggers rescue effort

It happened yesterday afternoon at High Seat in the Central Fells while the man was out walking with his wife. As the man attempted to jump across some over boggy ground, he landed awkwardly and immediately felt his hamstring snap . The couple called 999 and asked for mountain rescue assistance. Fortunately the Great North Air Ambulance was available to attend quickly. A rescue team Sprinter vehicle with Keswick team members was deployed with the knowledge that GNAAS were en route just in case the helicopter had to be diverted.

Rescuers called to Blencathra paragliding accident

MOUNTAIN rescuers were called to a Lake District fell after a paraglider was injured in a heavy landing . Keswick Mountain Rescue member say the casualty was hurt in a heavy landing after his machine suffered a partial canopy collapse. It happened at Blease Fell on Blencathra shortly after mid-day. The alarm was quickly raised thanks to a team member already being in the area at the time. Medics from the Great North Air Ambulance (GNAAS) were deployed to the scene and quickly assessed the paraglider, providing pain relief. Keswick Mountain Rescue Team members placed the man in a vacuum mattress and stretchered him a short distance up the hill to the helicopter which transferred him to Carlisle hospital, said a statement.
