Opening for this weekâs Music on Main concert in Victor City Park in Idaho, Inland Isle will put their hearts on the line when they play âAmong the Pinesâ â a song from their debut album, released this past April, about Jacksonâs housing crisis.
âItâs always a trip to play that one because everyone has to move over [to Idaho] to even work back in town sometimes,â songwriter-guitarist Patrick Chadwick said. âAnd even over there, rising living costs are now a problem, so Iâm most excited to play that one.â
Unlike most Music on Main performers, Chadwick and his crew wonât have to travel far to make the date. The Jackson Hole band need only book it over Teton Pass to set the stage for tomorrowâs headliner, Jackie Venson.

Itâs often said that Jackson Hole is like an island: isolated, self-contained, self-created, maybe self-absorbed. Populated by endemic species that maybe seem weird to outsiders.
Itâs an apt simile for one of Jackson Holeâs newest bands, Inland Isle, which on Friday will release its debut CD, âTime Has Changed Us,â eight engaging but probing songs that feel like a wide-open window after a long winter, or a long pandemic.
âDusty came up with the name,â songwriter-guitarist Patrick Chadwick said of his bandmate, lead guitarist Dusty Nichols. âOur songwriting is introspective, and âInland Isleâ makes you think of that. . And our songs are very Jackson-specific that talk about specific issues: housing and income inequality, moving here and being a big fish in a small pond, as far as gig opportunities go.â

The headlines made it clear this year.
The past 12 months saw a rise in how often local residents heard about events that could be deemed hate crimes, hate speech or acts threatening to minorities or people of certain religious beliefs or ethnic backgrounds.
Some were difficult to forget: A group of men allegedly bringing weapons to a Black Lives Matter protest in Troy. KKK supporters meeting at a park in Fort Plain. A suspect fire-bombing a woman’s car in Schenectady after she broke up an altercation. A neighbor posting racist, homophobic and anti-Semitic signs on his lawn in Schoharie County.
