Regional council investigating complaint of alleged illegal dumping of drilling waste at landfarming site

In a statement, TRC resource management director Fred McLay said the council was investigating the McLean s complaint. McLay said the company had agreed to cease accepting solid drilling waste after December 31, 2020, but had current resource consents with the council allowing it to discharge various wastes to land for composting and to air. Among the acceptable wastes allowed to be dumped are animal manure, green vegetables, pulp residue, water-based drilling fluid, poultry waste, ox tails, and sheep and lamb skins, he said. Only those wastes specified by the consents are allowed to be dumped at the site, McLay said.
