RI Chief Justice names new disciplinary chief counsel
PROVIDENCE A longtime staff member of the Supreme Court Office of Disciplinary Counsel will take the helm of the office that helps investigate and prosecute Rhode Island lawyers for alleged misconduct.
Supreme Court Chief Justice Paul A. Suttell announced Tuesday the appointment of deputy Chief Disciplinary Counsel Kerry Reilly Travers, a 30-year employee of that office, as chief disciplinary counsel. Travers succeeds David D. Curtin, who retired this month.
The Office of Disciplinary Counsel works in coordination with the state Supreme Court and its Disciplinary Board.
Travers ascended to the deputy post last year after working as an assistant disciplinary counsel. In that role, she concentrated on attorney ethics and helping members of the public and the bar, according to a news release.
