Atlas Insurance underlines the benefits of corporate wellness

Atlas Insurance underlined the various benefits of corporate wellness during a webinar which was organised in collabo­ration with the Health and Wellness Committee of the Malta Chamber on May 6. The event, which was addressed by leading professionals in the field, was chaired by Catherine Calleja, managing director at Atlas Healthcare and chair of the Health and Wellness Committee. The aim of the programme was to show that wellness has a measurable effect on engagement and productivity at work. Cathy Peric, a psychotherapist with a focus on resilience, focused on particular aspects of wellness and how they have been shown to improve work performance and create a safe place for employees to flourish. And Kerry Paterson, from ICAS International, followed up with a very practical demonstration on how to set up a successful wellness programme at work and measure results.

In the backyard of every Corvallisite sits a university where these breakthroughs can be developed and seen in use every day. Here is a list of the top discoveries to come out of Corvallis in 2020.   No. 1: Electronic Noses  Assistant professor of chemical engineering Cory Simon led research into the development of an electronic nose that allows for the monitoring of air quality. The goal is to detect safety threats and diagnose diseases which can be measured by the gases in a patient’s breath. Collaborating with engineering professor Chih-Hung Chang, the research focused on materials known as metal-organic frameworks, which have pores that can selectively absorb gases – much like a sponge.

Like dozens of journalists jailed in Egypt, Alaa is in prison simply for speaking out against those in power. And like so many other jailed journalists, there is no end in sight.
