reasoning. because the people who tend not to vote are young. they re lower income. they re skewed more heavily towards immigrant groups and minority groups. and, you know, they re often the folks who are scratching and climbing to get into the middle class, and they re working hard. kerry dan is nbc s political editor. she joins us now. let s talk about the mandatory voting law idea. obviously the president, who is a constitutional scholar, knows the significance of what it means for the american right to vote. but no one s really taking it seriously that there s going to be any type of effective law, right, that s going to make americans have to go to the polls. well the president is very familiar with having partisan fights with republicans in congress. he knows how difficult it is to get controversial legislation passed.
and america reaches farther into the unknown. we ll take a look at that. a good friday morning to you. i m craig melvin here in new york. hackers are taking credit for a interrupt of microsoft xbox. does not appear related to the original hack. this happened on the same day the controversial comedy the interview opened in select theaters. sony had said it would not release that film after threats from a group identifying itself as hackers prompted the country s largest theaters to pull it. i m joined now from los angeles by gina kim. here s the thing, man, this christmas day, timing could not have come worse, at a time when people were opening those xboxes, opening those playstations. what s the latest on this particular outage? the latest is a group called lizard skwaquad is taking responsibility for the outage on twitter, on social media at least. but that has not been confirmed. nor do we know the cause or reason. this was not the same group that attacked sony in the f
and it s my job as president to help solve it. [ applause ] joining me live kerry dan. i want to fast forward to the sunday morning program. meet the press has a special hour prepared to take a look at the events involving ferguson and the latest with eric garner and what is happening here in new york city. it will evaluate the president s handling of this and promises he has made to change the course of what we re seeing here. that s right. i think you ll see the administration they ve been speaking out with increasing forcefulness about the issue. i think you ll see that trend beginning to continue especially in the wake of the garner case. you ve seen a remarkable bipartisan outcry. in contrast to ferguson, missouri where it was a partisan debate, here you re seeing unity from some of the most strided conservative voices and those on the democratic side say we need to take a look at this. it s an issue new york and d.c. issue. this is popping up in local
