An annual festival will celebrate Black art and film this Saturday in Killeen. The Black Art & Film Fest will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday at the Killeen Civic and Conference Center, 3601 S. W.S. Young Drive.
Not only can people participate in-person, they can also participate virtually via Zoom, event organizer Luvina Sabree said.
Tickets for the event can be purchased in advance for $10 at filmfreeway.com/killeenblackartandfilmfest/tickets. Those wishing to participate virtually will be given a Zoom link.
Tickets cost $15 at the door.
In what will be the second annual installment of the festival, attendees will have the option to attend one of four workshops given by people in the theater industry.

The still-present need for work toward equality was one of the main messages given to attendees Monday at a car parade to honor Martin Luther King Jr.
The Temple unit of the NAACP held its annual parade to honor the civil rights leader, although this year participants rode in their vehicles along the parade route instead of walking. The parade went through downtown Temple before stopping at City Hall for a speech.
Bennie Walsh, president of the Temple NAACP branch, said that it was important for people to come together to fight for the change that they want.
âAll the things going around the nation, rioting and killing, none of these were in Dr. Kingâs plan 60 years ago,â Walsh said. â60 years later, we are still dealing with these problems going on in the world, and it looks like they are getting worse. But the only way we can change what is going on in the world today is for us to come together and make that change.â

Today is Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, on which we not only celebrate the message and the legacy of Dr. King, but do what we can to keep that legacy alive with service to our fellow human beings.
Day of Service events have been happening all over Central Texas today, and to cap it all off, the Temple chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) will hold an MLK Day parade through Downtown Temple beginning at 4 PM.
