BAKERSFIELD, Calif. â National Doctorâs Day celebrates the contributions physicians make to our communities nationwide.
âAs has become evident during this pandemic, the gift of our medical community, it has never been more important, said Kern County Adventist Health president Daniel Wilcott.
But this year, instead of gifts or a banquet for themselves, Adventist Health used the day to help Kern County families.
âWe are making a donation of $50,000 to the Kern County Literacy Council, said Kern County Adventist Health Chief Medical Officer Dr. Ronald Reynoso.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. â 23ABC News will be donating around 500 books to local children with the Kern Literacy Council through the Magic of Storytelling campaign, but not every kid is necessarily excited about reading. So Independence Elementary School teacher Josh King shared some ways to make it enjoyable for the whole family.
He suggested letting your child read in a fun setting like inside a pillow fort or outside at a park. Siblings reading to each other can also help.
