A Massaman-style Wallaby curry with poppadom and pickled cucumber will be this year s free wild food treat to attract visitors to the Northland Regional Council s Northland Field Days marquee. The council has transformed all sorts of pest animals, plants and even insects into edible field days treats over the years and for the past several events has forged a culinary collaboration with NorthTec cookery students. Rodney College students received a surprise visit from Blues Super Rugby players last week.
Midfielder Tanielu Tele’a, lock Jacob Pierce and prop Karl Jacob Tenielu handed out supporters’ gear and rugby boots.
The school visit was part of a tour by the Blues squad, which saw them visit 14 clubs and schools to hand out 250 pairs of recycled boots, which have been cleaned and repurposed.
