App Softball Drops Both Games of Doubleheader

App State (11-7) dropped its first two Sun Belt games on Saturday, falling to South Alabama (12-8) 1-0 and 7-4, respectively. The Mountaineers and Jaguars will play the final game of the series on Sunday, with the first pitch at 1 p.m. EST.
Game 1
South Alabama scored one run in the first inning and never looked back as freshman pitcher Oliva Lackie threw a one-hit shutout, striking out 15 en route to her eighth win of the season.

App State recorded two run-rule victories on Sunday, shutting out North Carolina Central 8-0 and 17-0, respectively. The Mountaineer defense allowed only four total hits on the day and the 17-run margin of victory tied with App State’s largest margin since a 20-3 win over Radford in 2015.
Game 1
App State started the scoring in the top of the second as Mary Pierce Barnes singled to right field to start the rally. Caylie Kifer laid down a sacrifice bunt to move her to second, putting her in position to score as Gabby Buruato singled through the right side to put the Mountaineers up 1-0.

Game 1
The Mountaineers jumped out early on the Aggies and never looked back in game one. A wild pitch scored the first run for the Mountaineers as Keri White worked her way around the bases to set up for the score.
App State did not let up as they scored three in the second. Maegan Calandra doubled to bring in two and Emma Jones singled to bring in another.
