The Kerala Road Fund Board (KRFB) and the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB) will shortly take a call on whether to widen the Thammanam-Pullepady road and extend it to M.G. Road and the NH Bypass on either side at 22 metres width as was envisaged or develop it as a 23-metre-wide corridor as per KIIFB norms.
A decision on width will reflect in the detailed project report (DPR), which is expected to be readied by the project preparation unit by June. The Kochi Corporation, which initiated the road development work over two decades ago, and subsequently the PWD, which had readied plans to take over the stretch from the civic body, had drawn up plans to limit the width of the four-lane road that was envisaged to 22 metres.
Many projects such as the Light Metro, Mananchira-Vellimadukunnu corridor have all hit roadblocks Newly elected legislators of Kozhikode North and Kozhikode South Constituencies have high expectations to implement big ticket projects such as the Light Metro for the development of city.
For various reasons, the ₹2,775 crore Light Metro proposed for the city has not been dealt with or considered seriously for more than five years. One of reason for it is that the State government failed to secure the mandatory clearance from the Centre’s Public Investment Board.
Now a fresh initiative such as the Metro-Neo is in the offing. Two-time Mayor Thottathil Raveendran, who won from Kozhikode North, has already taken steps to look into the feasibility of the project.
Stakeholders keen to straighten curves in the corridor leading to Pullepady
A team of officials of the Kochi Corporation and the Kerala Road Fund Board (KRFB) inspected Thammanam Junction and the alignment beyond on Thursday as part of the project to widen the Thammanam-Pullepady road and extend it from either side to Chakkaraparambu on the NH Bypass and to Padma Junction on M.G. Road.
The detailed project report (DPR) for the initiative will be ready before June. It will then be forwarded to the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB), following which a meeting will be held with MLAs representing Ernakulam and Thrikkakara.
Agency takes over work from Public Works Department (Roads wing)
The Kerala Road Fund Board (KRFB) has taken over from the Public Works Department (PWD) the project to develop Thammanam-Pullepady road as a four-lane road and to extend it to M.G. Road and the NH Bypass on either side.
The PWD (Roads wing) handed over files related to the project to KRFB earlier this month. This makes it the second road widening project in the district that the agency has taken over from the PWD. The first was the one to widen the 13-km-long Thripunithura S.N. Junction-Poothotta road at a cost of ₹628 crore, for which the detailed project report (DPR) is ready, and land acquisition is set to begin in May.
