Nitin Gadkari is known to be the rare bold minister in the Narendra Modi-led government. Recently, however, he appeared to have gone a little too far. Speaking at the inauguration of a private Covid-19 care centre in his constituency, Nagpur, Gadkari sought to ring the alarm bells. “The [Covid] situation is very serious and no one knows how long it will last. What will happen in the next 15 days to one month it’s difficult to tell,” he said. He stressed on the need for long-term arrangements to battle the pandemic.
In February itself, the Bharatiya Janata Party had credited the prime minister for having defeated the coronavirus, and here Gadkari was conjuring a grim picture. Whispers in party corridors have it that Gadkari should have reposed faith in the leadership of the prime minister and expressed confidence that the coronavirus will once again be defeated. Synopsis
Both the rival fronts, the LDF and UDF are concerned over BJP s growing proximity to the Church on these matters, but have remained silent, fearing a Muslim backlash in the polls. Their campaigns focus on attacks in the country against people of the minority communities, allegedly by right wing outfits under the BJP rule.

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi, addressing a poll rally in Thrissur last week, flayed Prime Minister Narendra Modi s silence over the alleged harassment of the nuns.
Issues like conversion of the ancient Hagia Sophia church in Turkey to a mosque, incidents of Love Jihad and harassment of nuns in a moving train in Uttar Pradesh, will be reflected in the April 6 assembly polls, say voters in Christian dominated Central Kerala constituencies. Several heavyweights, including senior Congress leader and former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, Kerala Congress(M) leader Jose K Mani, a key partner of the CPI(M)-led LDF, two Rajya Sabha BJP MPs K J Alphons and Suresh Gopi are trying their luck from the constituencies, spread across Ernakulam, Idukki, Kottayam and parts of Thrissur.
Kerala MLA PC George
They might call him ‘Pottymouth PC’ in Kerala, but it has seldom bothered Palthottathil Chacko George. The 70-year-old made history in the 2016 assembly poll when he defeated the LDF, UDF, and the NDA to retain his home constituency Poonjar by a margin of 27,821 votes. Except for 1987, George has won elections every time since 1980.
His electoral pull is a mystery given that he is a man everyone loves to hate. Extremely male chauvinist, he has never expressed any sympathy for victims of sexual abuse. He backed actor Dileep in the 2017 abduction and rape case of a Malayalee actress, openly defended Bishop Franco Mulakkal in the 2018 nun rape case, has denounced ‘love jihad’. He joined the United Democratic Front but left when he found the National Democratic Alliance a more winnable platform. Now, he is contesting the poll as an Independent under the banner of his Kerala Janapaksham (Secular). He recently cancelled his poll campaign at Erattupetta town w
