Presidential Awards finalists named

Presidential Awards finalists named Butler County Times Gazette  Three mathematics educators and three science educators have been named 2021 state finalists for the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching. Kansas had seven mathematics applicants and 11 science applicants. There were two nominees from Butler County school districts  Gavin Wuthrich of  Frederic Remington High School, Remington-Whitewater USD 206 was nominated in mathematics while  JD Hand of  Augusta High School, Augusta USD 402 was nominated in science. The 2021 state finalists for mathematics are Melissa Schoepf, Thomas More Prep-Marian Junior-Senior High School, Salina Diocese; Elizabeth Self, Kepley Middle School, Ulysses Unified School District 214; and Kimberly Tate, Chisholm Middle School, Newton USD 373.

Hays math teacher Schoepf among state finalists in presidential awards

Melissa Schoepf, a mathematics teacher at Thomas More Prep-Marian Junior-Senior High School in Hays, was among six educators named last week as 2021 state finalists for the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching. Three mathematics educators and three science educators were named 2021 state finalists for those awards, which are administered by the National Science Foundation on behalf of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. What an awesome accomplishment! Thomas More Prep-Marian said of Schoepf in a post Friday on its website. The six state finalists will compete to be named one of the two national finalists from Kansas, for which there will be one each in the areas of mathematics and science, the Kansas Department of Education said in a news release Friday. Each national finalist will receive $10,000, it said.
