THE FLATS – Yellow Jacket track & field opened up the first day of the Georgia Tech Invitational at Griffin Track on Friday evening. Tech laced it up against Alabama-Huntsville (M/W), Augusta (M/W), Boston College (M), Charleston Southern (M/W), Chattanooga (W), Clark Atlanta (W), Emory (M/W), Georgia Southern (W), Georgia State (W), Hillsdale College (M/W), Jacksonville State (W), Kennesaw State (M/W), Lee (M/W), Mississippi College (M/W), Transylvania Univ. (M) and Valdosta State (M/W).
The Jackets had five student-athletes collect gold in their respective events throughout the first day.
Senior distance runner
Andrew Kent had a massive personal best in the men’s 1500m, coming in at 3:44.37 shattering his previous PR of 3:47.00 to take first. Freshman teammate
Alexis Kitchens, were Tech’s four podium finishers during the last events of the Invite.
Walls, the Jackets top performer on the day, placed second in the women’s 3000m crossing the finish line at 10:04.87. The Clemson Invite was the true freshman’s second collegiate meet of her career. Six Tech runners placed in the top-10 in the 3000m, as
McKnight joined Walls on the podium taking third with a time of 10:14.91.
Kitchens set a personal best time in the 200m as she sprinted to a 24.97 third-place performance. She earned three personal best marks in three separate events throughout the Invite in the 200m, 60m (7.67) and long jump (5.74m/18’10”)
