JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – In a tight game throughout, featuring 18 lead changes and six ties, the Cardinals of Carrington knock off sixth rated Linton/Hazelton-Moffit-Braddock Lions in two overtimes, 62-51, in the Class B Region 3 Girls basketball championship game at the Civic Center Thursday night.
RV Carrington improves to 19-5 overall, No. 6 LHMB ends their season at 20-3 overall.
At the end of each quarter, both teams would swap leads. The Lions led after quarter one, 14-13, and heading into halftime, Carrington was in the lead 24-23. The Lions retook the lead 40-39 at the end of three quarters of play, and in the fourth, both teams were locked at 48 to send it into the first overtime. No team scored in the first overtime to send the contest into double OT. The Cardinals came out strong in double OT, going on a 14-0 run to end the game. The District 6 champs will advance to the region championship on Thursday night after defeating the Tornadoes of Oakes in the first semifinal. The Lions were led by Jaycee Richter with 28 points, including two 3-pointers, she was also 6/8 at the free throw line. Oakes was led by Laikyn Roney with 24, Emma Muggli with 20 and Sadie Hanson with 13 points and 13 rebounds and five steals.

The Cardinals trailed at one point in the first half 22-5, but a big second half helped the Cardinals move into the championship game Thursday night with the Lions of Linton/HMB. Hannah Hagel helped the comeback with 15 points, all in the second half, Kenzie Edland added 14 points and 12 rebounds. The Wolves were paced by Kennedy Harter with 13 points, Madelyn Schmidt added 11.
BISMARCK, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The Cardinals were down 30-26 at the break, but they outscored the Skyhawks 23-11 in the third quarter, including five 3-pointers to take the lead 49-41 at the end of three and hold on in the fourth quarter for the 60-54 victory Saturday afternoon. Carrington improves to 14-4 overall and Shiloh drops to 12-7 overall.
Leading the way for Carrington was Hannah Hagel with 23, Sydnie Grager added 12, Emma Rindy ended with nine, all three’s, Kenzie Edland had nine as well. Grace Kelly led the way for Bismarck with 17 and Emily Hammeren added 16.
Next up for Carrington will be on Monday at home against Thompson, KDAK will have the game starting about 7pm.
Carrington, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) -The Carrington Cardinals girls basketball team ran into a hot shooting Midway-Minto (MM) Mustangs squad and fell 70-45 in a game that had a running clock in the fourth quarter. After a competitive opening quarter that had MM leading 18-13, the Mustangs ramped up the defensive pressure and turned it into a 29 point quarter and taking a 47-26 lead at the break.
Elizabeth Shanilec (5’8 senior) paced the Mustangs with a game high 24 points (19 in the first half) and also created multiple steals and forced several Cardinal turnovers. Khaleela Korynta (5’7 junior) came off the bench and drilled 5 three pointers to account for all 15 of her points. Korynta connected on 3 of the 5 triples in the second quarter. April Schmitz (5’8 senior) added 11 points for the Mustangs. The Mustangs forced Carrington into 23 turnovers in the game including 15 in the first half and only committed 5 of their own (1 in the first half).
