The UK HealthCare/Norton Healthcare – Stroke Care Network (SCN) is announcing the addition of three hospitals bringing the network total to 40 affiliates. Bluegrass Community Hospital (Versailles, Kentucky), Bourbon Community Hospital (Paris, Kentucky) and Clark Regional Medical Center (Winchester, Kentucky) are now members of the SCN, expanding access to high-quality stroke care across Central Kentucky.
Jay Avasarala, M.D., Ph.D., represented the American Academy of Neurology as its chair (2020-22) and participated in the 18-month long program, organized by MSIF (MS International Federation) along with researchers from across the globe to put together a list of drugs for MS that was later submitted to the WHO for approval. The drugs were selected for safety, efficacy, availability in the local communities and expense.
Last month, Phillip Tibbs, M.D., closed a chapter of his storied career by completing the final of his nearly 20,000 surgeries at UK. During his time at UK, Tibbs was part of three landmark publications that helped establish the standard of care still used today for brain and spinal tumors.
Larry Goldstein, chair of the University of Kentucky Department of Neurology, has been elected to serve another two-year term on the board of directors of The American Academy of Neurology (AAN). Goldstein also is co-director of the Kentucky Neuroscience Institute, co-director of the UK Neuroscience Research Priority Area and interim director of the UK-Norton Healthcare Stroke Care Network.
