CHATHAM, Va. — During Tuesday’s meeting of the Pittsylvania County Fire and Rescue Commission, Ringgold Volunteer Fire and Rescue Chief Mike Neal asked Pittsylvania County for help covering EMS calls.
Whitney Terry and Casey Kenealy at Dan River High School have been challenging their agriculture students to build items to give back to the community for several years.Â
In the past, their classes have made items like bunk beds and dog houses, and this year, the students created free little libraries for the community, funded by a $500 Virginia Agriculture in the Classroom grant received by the department.
The idea behind the libraries is for adults and children to have access to free reading material at their convenience, taking a book while leaving a book for the next reader.
âWe wanted to provide more access to reading material to the community while saving them money, especially in these hard times,â Kenealy said of the project.
