How Maidstone earned Kent s County Town title and what it really means

When you drive into Maidstone from the A20 or the A229 you will be greeted with signs saying Welcome to the county town of Kent , but does anybody know what the title means?
A county town is defined as the administrative capital, selected because of its central role in local government.

With Kent County Council (KCC) having its headquarters in Sessions House in County Hall, this fact in a nutshell sums up why Maidstone holds the title.

Canterbury Pride organisers have revealed that the event will take place on September 11.

Committee member Jon Fitter-Harding says the team running the festivities decided to hold it towards the end of summer, rather than in June, because it wanted to have a date it could be confident in . We really want to reach young people, so the university students are a key demographic for us and we know by late June many of them will have left the city, he said. When you re introducing yourself to new people in September, coming to Pride is a great way to be who you are and set yourself up for the year.

tham-Kent Pride is looking for a bigger presence in the community and has purchased a building in downtown Chatham.
The local gay pride association also looking for a safe space to welcome programming events and community space for LGBTQ members and family.
The building on Centre street is currently being renovated. “This is an exciting time for Chatham-Kent,” says Pride Association President Marianne Willson. “This space will help so many youth, members and families in Chatham-Kent, and will go a long way toward making our community inclusive and safe for all.” It’s all possible because of a generous donation from former Chatham resident Bill Brokenshire.
