CHESTERTOWN â The number of confirmed cases of the coronavirus that causes COVID-19 has skyrocketed this month in Kent County. As of Tuesday the total was 718, according to the Maryland Department of Health.
Kentâs caseload has increased by 252 in December, with surges of 10 or more cases in one day on a handful of occasions. Most recently, the number of positive tests increased by 18 from 695 on Sunday, Dec. 27 to 713 on Monday.
Also, Kent County recorded its 25th COVID-related death.
Kent County Health Officer William Webb said a man in his 70s died on Dec. 21. He was someone who was âsignificantly sick in an end-of-life situation,â Webb said, noting that the death was not related to a nursing home.

THEFT. Cpl. G. Travis Manning is investigating a Nov. 30 theft of a dirt bike from the front porch of a residence in the 10000-block of Chesterville Forest Road, near Millington. The reported value of the dirt bike is $1,700, according to a sheriff s office news release.
THEFT. DFC Michael Piasecki is investigating the theft of two side mirrors from a box truck in the 12000-block of Augustine Herman Highway, Kennedyville. The estimated value of the mirrors is $1,000, according to a sheriff s office news release. The theft was reported Dec. 2, but could have happened any time after Nov. 12, according to the complainant.
