England have approached Everton youngster Tom Cannon over a potential national team allegiance switch from the Republic of Ireland.
Cannon, 20, spent the second half of last season on loan at Championship side Preston North End and enjoyed a productive spell, scoring eight goals in 20 league games.
That form led to the forward’s first call-up to the Republic of Ireland’s Under-21 side in March, where he scored on debut.
Cannon, who has previously represented the Republic of Ireland at under-20 and under-19 level, was called up to the senior squad in May by manager Stephen Kenny.
