City plans several events for first week of May

Listen to this article RENSSELAER — The City of Rensselaer is making preparations for Clean Up Week, which will begin May 3 and run through May 7. According to city officials, your normal trash pick-up day is also the day items will be picked up as part of Clean Up Week. Items such as old furniture, TVs, electronics, mattresses, etc. will be picked up with normal trash. However, the following items will not be picked up at as part of Clean Up Week: • General contractor materials • Oil of any type • Red or pink garbage bags City workers will also pick up appliances and tires at a fee. All appliances, including AC units, are $10 per appliance and tires will be billed as follows:

City of Rensselaer, IMPA extend life of contract

Listen to this article RENSSELAER — The City of Rensselaer agreed to extend its contract an additional eight years with Indiana Municipal Power Agency during a council meeting on Jan. 8. That extends the current contract to 2050. The contact was set to expire in 2042. IMPA operates two solar parks in Rensselaer. Prior to that, the contract also included the city’s power plant, which was discontinued last year. The city is currently trying to sell pieces of the plant to potential buyers. Bryan Brackemyre, of IMPA, said his company and the city have maintained a good relationship when Rensselaer became one of the first 26 cities to first sign with IMPA in 1983.
