The church last month moved from the Invercargill suburb of Newfield to Kennington. Money bequeath to the Liberty Christian Fellowship from its founders, Ernie and Lorraine Sinclair, helped to buy the old Kennington Presbyterian Church. “The lease was running out [on the Newfield building] and we decided it was time to own our own building,” Stevens said. The Newfield building had earlier housed the Stairs Restaurant. There was plenty of space on the Kennington property to extend the church, Stevens said. About 50 Liberty Christian Fellowship followers met weekly for worship at the memorial hall in Winton. Numbers are rising there too and church leaders are thinking about owning their own building in Winton within the next two years.
