Inquiry Into Alleged Foreign Funding of ‘Anti-Oilsands Campaigns’ Will Soon Deliver Report
Alberta’s public inquiry into the role foreign money may be playing in undermining the energy sector will deliver its report at the end of January.
Accountant Steve Allan has been tasked with the inquiry’s mandate to examine “whether any foreign organization that has evinced an intent harmful or injurious to the Alberta oil and gas industry has provided financial assistance to a Canadian organization.” Special attention is to be paid to any Canadian organization that has spread “misleading or false information” about that industry, received grants from any level of government in Canada, or has charitable status in Canada.

If you live in Ontario, stay at home. Only leave for essential reasons. Like going to the grocery store or the pharmacy. Or picking up takeout or curbside orders from, uh, non-essential businesses. Or exercising or meeting a few friends. If this doesn’t sound that different from what you were already doing, you’re clearly not paying attention. That was a lockdown, and this is an ORDER. The police will be issuing tickets, so don’t screw up.

Amid skyrocketing COVID-19 case counts and plummeting polling numbers, Alberta’s United Conservative government has finally buckled under mounting public pressure to impose stringent social-distancing measures.
But with the new restrictions expected to remain for at least four weeks including from Christmas to the New Year is Alberta Premier Jason Kenney prepared to enforce the temporary new regime, which includes a near-blanket ban on both indoor and outdoor social gatherings? It also includes a total shutdown of bars, casinos, and hair salons, with takeout service only for restaurants and a province-wide mask mandate.
