ROCKFORD Newcomer Kamrin Muhammad is challenging Rockford School Board President Ken Scrivano for his seat on the board, which he’s held since 2011.
Scrivano is a retired respiratory therapist and hospital administrator. Muhammad is a recreation coordinator at Washington Park Community Center.
Muhammad has a 15-year-old son who attends Auburn High School. Scrivano’s grandchildren attend Rockford Public Schools.
Both candidates are seeking votes in subdistrict C, a geographic area on the city’s northwest side roughly bounded by Auburn Street, the Rock River and Meridian and Latham roads.
Schools within subdistrict C are Conklin, Welsh, West and West View.
