Updated: 2:15 PM EDT Apr 30, 2021 Alex Suckow Digital Editor The day before the Kentucky Derby, one of the 20 horses in this year s race will be scratched.It was announced Friday that King Fury had a high fever and elevated white blood cell count.The horse was in spot 16 with 20-1 odds.He s owned by Fern Circle Stables and Three Chimneys Farm LLC and trained by Kenneth G. McPeek. “King Fury spiked a 104 degree fever this afternoon after he galloped this morning,” McPeek said. “He went off his feed after he trained. I feel gutted for all of the people that worked to get him ready for this race. Unfortunately he’s not 100%.. We’ll regroup and point to another race.” Brian Joseph Hernandez Jr. is his jockey.Churchill Downs said all horses to his outside will move in one spot in the starting gate. The program numbers will remain the same. The Kentucky Derby race is Saturday at 6:57 p.m.
