Historic Pepsi Building a versatile utility for over 80 years

DANVILLE, Va. — Sandwiched between the Danville Science Center and Carrington Pavilion on the banks of the Dan River, the Pepsi Building has been a fixture of the River District vista for the better part of a century. The building itself is incredibly unique in its multi-faceted role throughout the River City s past and present, serving a multitude of purposes from a place of commerce to a party zone — all while being a living history lesson to all those who visit. John W. Gibson Sr. had the Pepsi Building built around 1938 to meet the expanded demand for his franchise of the Pepsi Bottling Company, said Kenneth Porzio, Crossing at the Dan program coordinator. There is an article from the newspaper about the business from the 1940s hanging on the wall in the Pepsi Building from that time, telling about the business and the company officers. Most of the men involved are away at war.
