Say if this was an accident or not but one person is confirmed dead today after their vehicle went in to what metropolitan police described to be 10 feet of water in the potomac. Reporter emergency crews are seen trying to revive the victim but it was apparently too late. Police tell us the person who saw this happen was a dc duck operator. The witness called in and basically stated that he saw a vehicle in the water 3 4ths of the way submerged and one person was seen, the silhouette of a person. Reporter a k9 unit surrounded the area to make sure there wasnt a second person who maybe jumped or fell out of the vehicle. We begin with break news right now out of virginia. Reporter we got some new information on a developing story out of central virginia. We have learned the acve shooter situation is a suicide. The victim was an active duty female soldier who entered the building waving a gun which she th then reportedly turned on herself and fired. All of fort lee was put on lockdown but now only biltding 5020 where this happened is closed off. The situation is under control at fort lee which is about 25 miles south of richmond. This scare comes as we approach the oneyear mark of the fatal shootings. 12 people and the shooter died in that attack last september. Thank you.
