Three Titles as WPU Finishes Fifth at League Meet
Des Moines–The Statesmen men’s track and field team topped a few competitions en route to a solid showing at the Heart of America Athletic Conference Championships Friday and Saturday.
William Penn finished with 68 points, tying Benedictine for fifth out of 13 squads. Grand View earned the team title with 208 points. The placing is WPU’s highest since taking runner-up honors in 2017.
The navy and gold walked off as event champions three times, led by Loubert Dagrin (So., Miami, Fla., Sociology) in the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 14.85 seconds.
Jackson Coates (So., Aldie, Va., Engineering Technology) bettered the triple jump field as well with a mark of 46-1.25. The sophomore then also joined teammates Jaelen Love (Jr., Crown Point, Ind., Secondary Education), Nick Richardson-Jackson (Sr., Germantown, Md.), and Torian Kingston (Jr., Queens, N.Y., Sports Management) as they picked up the 4×100-meter relay crown in 41.91 se
Statesmen Earn Five Golds, Dagrin Breaks Four-Decade-Old Record at Home Tourney
Oskaloosa–One of the longest-standing school records fell Friday as the William Penn men’s track and field team enjoyed a successful day in hosting the William Penn Statesmen Invitational.
Loubert Dagrin (So., Miami, Fla., Sociology) blitzed the 110-meter hurdle field with a winning time of 14.42 seconds. The performance breaks a record of 14.60 by Richard Baskerville that had stood since 1981. Dagrin now ranks seventh nationally, moving from the ‘B’ standard list to the ‘A’ grouping. He also now owns both of the school’s sprint hurdle records.
The navy and gold collected six other titles Friday, including a sweep of the jumps. Mofiyinfoluwa Alade (Sr., Hoffman Estates, Ill., Exercise Science), who was fourth in the 110 hurdles in a time of 15.96, won the high jump at 6-4.75.
Dagrin Breaks Hurdles Record at Winter Series #3
Lamoni–Loubert Dagrin (So., Miami, Fla.) made history Saturday as the Statesmen men’s track and field team continued its indoor season at the Graceland Winter Series #3 Saturday.
Dagrin won the 55-meter hurdles event with a new school-record time of 7.75 seconds, breaking the old record of 7.76 set by Sam Taylor in 2014. The sophomore was one of three event champions for William Penn on the day.
Mofiyinfoluwa Alade (Sr., Hoffman Estates, Ill.) also topped all high jumpers at 6-3.25, while Axel Arzate-Vazquez (So., Wray, Colo., Sports Management) posted the top 3,000-meter run time in 9:57.61.
