Officials from a local conservation authority used Earth Day to celebrate the efforts of an area landowner to preserve a natural area.
The Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority announced Thursday it has accepted a 25-acre woodlot as a donation from East Kent resident Kenneth Ashton. The parcel of land is a “beautiful example of a Carolinian forest,” a news release said.

“It’s connected to a bunch of other forests and it’s just south of the Delaware First Nation,” Randall Van Wagner, manager of conservation lands and services, said in an interview. “It is a nice link. We always look for that. Anytime there are natural areas in the vicinity, there is an obvious benefit.”
