Four-generation Roxborough matriarch balances past, present and future

For the Review Let’s face it…it’s practically basic human nature to think that we all grew up in a Golden Age of childhood. Things that have profoundly affected as youth have tendency cause us to to adhere to cultural and social conventions that we were brought up in and influence our thinking when we wax nostalgic about the simpler times of our younger days. - Advertisement - For those who spent their developing years in the Great Depression Era, like homegrown Roxborough resident Mary McCarthy, and are still around to reflect about those character-building times, it becomes rather evident that every sequence of time will have lasting impression on the core of one’s being. It is probably no less true than for kid’s of today learning to deal with the recent pandemic conditions, environmental change, social awakening, or a splintered national divide.

Kendrick Kippettes stage virtual Pink Invitational gymnastics meet

For the Review If the yearlong pandemic has done nothing else on a positive note, it has spurned creative ideas on how to do a myriad of things in a virtual manner that could never have been envisioned. Things that have become second nature could never have been imagined beforehand. Remote school instruction, business zoom meetings, streaming family gatherings, and now virtual sporting events. - Advertisement - What would have been the 13th annual Pink Invitational at the Pa. Convention Center with thousands of athletes from the East Coast coming together this weekend for a dynamic array of gymnastics competition could have easily fallen victim as another casualty of the Covid backlash. The meet, which is spearheaded by the “Unite For Her” organization, seeks to foster awareness and financial support for those afflicted with breast and ovarian cancer.
