Prosecutors believe that Paul Flores, now 45, killed the then 19-year-old Kristin Smart, whose friends and mother recently gave testimony regarding the decades-long case.
One of Kristin Smart’s friends from college testified on Monday about the night the 19-year-old disappeared more than two decades ago, according to reports from inside the courtroom.
Kristin Smart's friends and a fellow partygoer took the stand to describe their last hours with the 19-year-old freshman, who disappeared from her college campus in May 1996.
Witnesses took the stand today for the first time during the preliminary trial of Paul and Ruben Flores for the murder of Kristin Smart.
The preliminary hearing is for the prosecution to show whether or not there is enough evidence for the case to go to trial. The 12 day hearing started Monday with witnesses questioned, including both of Kristin Smart s parents, Stan and Denise Smart.
The Smarts
Both parents where questioned about their daughter s relationships with family members as well as how often they communicated with Kristin Smart.
Denise Smart said that all three of her children were very close and had a connection every parent would want their children to have. The connection among Kristin Smart and her siblings was so strong, Denise said, that Kristin would not have willingly missed her siblings milestone life events over the past 25 years.
