KRRO Radio, Dakota News Now, Scheels, HuHot, and Community Blood Bank will host a spring blood drive on Friday, May 28 from 9:00 am to 5:00 p.m. at Scheels (41st St. & Western Ave.). All blood types are encouraged to donate blood throughout the day to improve a significate deficiency in the local blood supply as we move into the Memorial Day weekend.
According to the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB), “As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, the blood community applauds those individuals who have selflessly responded to the call for blood donations during this time. Blood Centers nationwide have seen significate declines in blood collections in recent weeks, with some reporting their lowest turnout in more than one year. These trends are concerning, as both patients and blood centers depend on the altruism of donors to ensure that blood is available for life-saving treatments.”

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) Demand for blood donations remains high amid the pandemic. The Sioux Falls Community Blood Bank says it’s risen by about a third since March and hasn’t let up over the past few months.
“We are extremely grateful for the response and support that has been provided in our communities throughout the area,” Ken Versteeg, Executive Director, Community Blood Bank, said in a release. “There seems to be no real end to the higher demands being placed on our community’s blood supply at this time. Please consider donating blood this February and give a gift that comes from the heart and provides hope.”
