Margie Burgess vows to remain active despite loss in school board race

Wicked Local PLYMOUTH – Margie Burgess won her first seat on the Plymouth School Committee the hard way. She lost it in the same fashion. Twenty-three years after winning her first election for the school board, Burgess was ousted Saturday by a newcomer who failed in her first bid to fill a vacancy just months earlier. Burgess did the same thing in 1998, getting the nod from voters after town officials gave her a pass. In a five-candidate race for three three-year terms Saturday, Burgess was edged out of a seat on the board by Katherine Jackson by 290 votes.  Board Chairman Kim Savery Hunt and member Vedna Heywood won re-election to the Committee with 3,086 votes and 2,811 votes, respectively.

Shelagh Joyce makes surprise resignation from Select Board

Wicked Local PLYMOUTH – Moments after the Select Board reorganized, member Shelagh Joyce promptly resigned. The announcement came just after Dick Quintal was elected chair and Betty Cavacco was elected vice chair. Joyce had the lone dissenting votes on both nominations. The meeting opened with Quintal welcoming Harry Helm as the newest Select Board member. He had defeated previous Chair Ken Tavares for the lone seat on the board in Saturday’s Town Elections. Then the reorganization took place, followed by a statement by Helm about his joining the Select Board. “I would like to echo what Mr. Quintal said after his election as chair,” Helm said. “I want to see a unified Select Board working together for the people of Plymouth. They deserve that.”

Plymouth town manager does weekly show about Town Hall on PACTV

Wicked Local PLYMOUTH – It may not be “60 Minutes,” but “Truth Be Told” is starting to catch viewers attention on television. Hosted by Town Manager Melissa Arrighi, the new weekly program on PACTV gives insight and details about the ins and outs at Town Hall as seen from her office. “It’s just another way to reach residents,” she said in an interview. “Those who are already engaged with the town know what’s going on, but the vast majority don’t. We send out emails and post on social media. This is one more way of connecting with our citizens.”

2020 in Plymouth, from the pad of Emily Clark

2020 in Plymouth, from the pad of Emily Clark Thanks to Pinehills housing trust PLYMOUTH – In January, Zoning Board of Appeals member Michael “Buster” Main and his wife, former Conservation Commission Chairman Gerry Hooker, known affectionately as Sweetpea, recounted how Pinehills Managing Partner Tony Green took the high road and responded to criticism of a lack of affordable housing with a wonderful offer. Ten years ago, they said Green and Pinehills President John Judge asked if Main would get involved in The Pinehills LLC trust dedicated to providing funding for affordable housing. The Pinehills Affordable Housing Charitable Trust was born and Main served on its board of directors. Green and Judge, as well as developer Tom Wallace, put their heads together to dedicate funds and raise money for 19 affordable homes for the homeless, veterans and those who simply couldn’t afford a home otherwise. As Main retired from his post with the trust, he publicly acknowledged the m
