Dec 18, 2020 Governor Andrew Cuomo is predicting that New York will not see a second economic shutdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The governor spent the week backing away from statements on Monday, where he warned that the state was headed for a second shut down, similar to the one last spring, to keep the coronavirus from spreading further.
The governor now says, even with the expected increase in social gatherings surrounding during the upcoming holidays, he does not think more economic restrictions will be necessary. He says he thinks people in the state learned something from the post-Thanksgiving surge in the infection rate and will be careful this time around.

Commentary
Governor Andrew Cuomo is reported to be on Joe Biden’s shortlist for attorney general of the United States, though Cuomo claims he’s not interested. A savvy response, considering he might not be Biden’s final choice, and if he is, he’ll have to undergo Senate scrutiny. He’s got a lot to explain.

Cuomo’s constituents are bearing the brunt of his left-wing criminal justice policies that put repeat offenders back on the streets hours after their arrest with no bail required. New Yorkers are being terrorized by a huge increase in gun violence, mostly by repeat offenders who would be behind bars if Cuomo hadn’t kowtowed to the extreme left on bail “reform.” The toll: 1,756

ALBANY â Officials established new target COVID-19 focus zones Monday as Finger Lakes and Western New York communities continue to see budding hot spots of new coronavirus infections.
The new hot spots were identified as the state works to slow the spread of the illness and Gov. Andrew Cuomo warns of subsequent state shutdowns.
A precautionary yellow zone was established for the first time Monday in Batavia, Genesee County; in Rome and Utica in Oneida County; and expanded in Niagara County. A yellow zone cautions a community of spreading COVID-19 cases after hitting 3% positivity over 10 days. It also cautions the emerging cluster is in the stateâs top 10% for hospital admissions per capita over the past week and week-over-week growth in daily admissions.
