, everyone i m yasmin vossoughian on a very busy saturday afternoon. it s down to the wire as negotiators say they are very close to a deal on the debt ceiling, as talks continue right now. i feel closer to agreement now than i did last time before i couldn t see progress. but this is not easy. but that since [inaudible] i am cautiously optimistic a deal will be negotiated and the default will be averted, and congress will be called back into session next week. but there s nothing to celebrate here. this is purely a self inflicted wounds. we re also keeping an eye on the rare side of the house hearing in texas as well, considering the impeachment of state attorney general, ken paxton. and its fellow republicans leading the charge against him. we also have new information about donald trump on tape. part of the evidence against him in a manhattan d.a. s investigation, and it is, everybody, as you all well know, memorial day weekend. the unofficial start of summer. we re
obstructed justice, and many today, and ken paxton hastha called on his supporters to show up here at the capital and to voice their opposition and their support of him, and we have seen dozens of folks who are lined up, waiting to get in, and they are now in the gallery preparing to listen to all of this play out. and it does appear to be causing a fracture in the republican party, with obviously, this republican-led committee voting unanimously to adopt these articles of impeachment. this is a republican-controlled legislations, but at the same time, you see the texas gop, the statewide party, backing ken paxton, senator ted cruz tweeting earlier today, calling this a travesty. so, it remains to be seen how all this is going to play out. i will tell you, we spoke to paxton s supporters here, who are calling this a witch hunt, saying it is politically motivated and what we do now is if the house ultimately voted to impeach today, paxton would be suspended from office
