North Wales Youth Christmas Regatta © Cathy Goodwin After an abortive day with no wind – feast or famine for wind this time of year – the RYA Cymru Wales Christmas Youth Regatta (North Wales Edition) got underway with back to back races at Port Dinorwic SC - Clwb Hwylio Y Felinheli. With a F2-3 South Westerly, not aligning with the forecast all week proposing F3-4 North Westerly. Twenty odd boats competing (subject to covid restrictions) saw a welcome day’s sailing considering the lack of any inter-club racing in North Wales this year. Members of Pwllheli, Llandudno and Royal Anglesey and well as home turf sailors taking part.

National Lottery campaign sees sports arenas renamed for day

The Geraint Thomas Velodrome in Newport was named the Chris Davies Velodrome on Tuesday after a Lliswerry running club coach and chairman. In Gwynedd, the Plas Menai National Outdoor Centre was named Ken Newing s Plas Menai in honour of a stalwart of nearby Port Dinorwic Sailing Club. Mr Newing said he was shaken and stirred when he found out. He has been involved with the Port Dinorwic Sailing Club for over 40 years and is said to have had a huge impact on sailing in the area.
